So, you have a very special event coming up. You’ve bought the perfect dress for the occasion, you know exactly what your hair and makeup are going to look like, and you’ve got the shoes of your dreams on standby. Now, you just need to perfect your model walk.

Walking in high heels is an art — if you get it right, you’ll blow everyone away. To help you look and feel catwalk-ready whenever you put on a pair of high heels, we’ve created this guide to walking and turning heads in them. Give it a read and you’ll be walking like a supermodel in no time.

The basics

There are some rules that will help you to stride confidently, whether you’re wearing skyscraper wedges or kitten heels. Keep these pointers in mind and you’ll always walk like a pro.

Make sure your shoes fit

You’ll struggle to walk with your head held high if you’re sliding around in your pumps, or the straps of your sandals are squeezing the life out of your toes. So, whenever you’re buying a new pair of high heels, you need to make sure they fit your feet perfectly.

We know it can be tempting to opt for a size up or down if you’ve spotted a pair of shoes you love that aren’t available in your size. But, this is a recipe for disaster when it comes to high heels. Resist the temptation, and stick to the styles that do fit you.

Take smaller steps

It’s common for even the most seasoned of heel-wearers to take steps that are far too big. This can result in your walk looking very unnatural, which isn’t what we’re going for here — you want to look like you were born to wear fabulous shoes. So, to stay in control and help your walk to look effortless, you should take smaller steps than usual. Yes, it may take you longer to get from A to B, but you’ll look great doing it.

Perfect your posture

We know you want to look tall, strong, and confident in your high heels, and working on your posture is the key to doing so. Roll your shoulders back, and make sure your head is in line with your spine.

Finally, you should make sure that your heels are always directly behind your toes, so you walk in a straight line with one foot behind the other. It’s how the catwalk models do it!

Always look where you’re going

It can be tempting to look down while you’re walking — especially when you’re wearing a gorgeous pair of heels that you’ve been dying to see on your feet. But, looking down can throw off your balance quite easily. Instead, you should always look towards your end point, whether that’s a particular bar, the table you’re sitting at, or your group of friends. Visualise a straight line that leads from you to that spot, and walk along it with one foot directly in front of the other. By concentrating on where you need to be you’ll be much more likely to walk without any mishaps. If you typically struggle to find your balance in high heels, it could be a total gamechanger.

Practice, practice, practice

There’s only one way you’ll find your stride, and that’s by practising. Decide how you would like your walk to look — are you more of a Naomi Campbell or Cara Delevingne? — then put on your shoes and practise until you’ve got your walk down. This will help you to get a feel for your new shoes, and might even rough up the bottoms so you can gain more traction when you venture outside.

How to master different styles of shoes

We’ve covered the basics, but now we’re going to discuss what you need to consider when walking in specific styles of heels. Whether you’ve just bought a pair of stilettos or have spotted some platforms you’re determined to rock, we’ll explain how you can look and feel your best in them.

How to walk confidently in stilettos

While stilettos are often considered to be the hardest to walk in, they aren’t actually too different to block heels and wedges: if you’ve mastered any style of high heels, you can master stilettos too.

Of course, stiletto heels are particularly thin, which means they can be slightly harder to balance in. There’s no need to worry, though. You just need to make sure that you perfect your posture and walk with one foot in front of the other, as we’ve discussed.

Also, because stilettos are much skinnier than the likes of block heels, they can be prone to snapping. This means you need to be wary of the surfaces you walk over — grass and gravel can be particularly troublesome, for example. You should also try to be light-footed when walking toe-to-heel.

You’re now ready to strut your stuff in a pair of our sexy stilettos. They come in a range of show-stopping designs, and are guaranteed to make you look and feel like a supermodel.

How to walk confidently in platform high heels

Platform heels are among the most comfortable to walk in. This is because, while they can be very high, they’ll typically keep your feet at a more comfortable angle than a lot of other heels.

When it comes to platforms, the main thing you need to get used to is the increased space between your feet and the ground. It’s important that you get a feel for this, otherwise you could be at risk of rolling your ankle or misjudging any steps you walk up. This is where the importance of practice comes in: walking around in your platforms is the only way to get used to their height, and this will also help to strengthen your ankle muscles, which is vital if you want to walk and dance comfortably all-night long.

You’re now ready to spend a night on the town in our fashion-forward platform heels. They’re a favourite among celebrities, and are ideal for giving your feet the A-list treatment they deserve.

How to walk confidently in wedges

Wedges are different to other high heel shoes, as they support your entire foot: there’s no gap where your arch is, with the sole simply growing much thicker towards the heel. As a result, wedges tend to be quite comfortable, and are a great solution when you can’t decide between heels or flats.

When wearing wedges, you might be tempted to place each foot down all at once, but it’s important that you opt for the heel-toe technique. Otherwise, your walk will look unnatural and you’ll be at a higher risk of rolling your ankle. By walking heel-first, you’ll look elegant, confident, and strong, which is exactly what we’re going for.
